Many people buried in an avalanche at Tignes ski resort

First aid workers have said that many skiers were swept away by the avalanche after it came down a busy slope, with several buried.

According to French newspaper Le Dauphine the avalanche struck in the Val Claret area near the Tichot chair lift at around 10.20am local time.
The blue run was the only slope open this morning due to reduced visibility, which has also made it very difficult to estimate how many skiers were on it at the time.
A regional police spokesman said. ‘According to witnesses, there are many people under the avalanche,’
The avalanche risk , which theoretically concerns only off-piste areas or closed tracks, was four out of five this morning.
The ski resort has been closed while incident is dealt with.
It is only a few weeks since another avalanche struck Tignes, killing four people.
