Man bitten by a spider is in danger of losing all of his limbs
He has already had both of his legs amputated after his wound became infected shortly after the incident happened in Birchip, Victoria, Australia, in late February.
Terry Pareja's condition was made worse as he had to wait two days until after the weekend to see the doctor, who was in a next town.
But the father-of-two remains in a critical condition in hospital and doctors feel they may have to amputate his arms if the flesh-eating bug spreads.
And his daughter has launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for Mr Pareja, who didn’t have travel insurance when he left from the Philippines. She has already raised the £30,000 (£18,199) she was looking for to cover his medical costs.
‘We do not have much and we are not rich,’ she said.
‘I am knocking on your hearts to help my dad’s medication and hospital bills.’
Some experts have suggested his infection may have been caused by a white-tailed spider bite but not everyone agrees.
Geoff Isbister, a researcher at the University of Newcastle, added: ‘It’s all about people wanting to be able to label what they have – much better that a spider did this, rather than “we are not sure”.’
