Heartbreaking trailer for Heath Ledger’s life documentary
A documentary in titled "I Am Heath Ledger", showing life behind the lens for the actor, who died in January 2008 aged 28 following an accidental prescription drugs overdose.
The trailer, which dropped on what would have been his 38th birthday – April 4 – family, friends and colleagues of the Australian actor pay tribute to him.
The film will offer fans an intimate look into Heath’s life, not only showing his passion for acting but also for filming. In it, he is described as ‘the most alive person’ by his friend, musician Ben Harper, and, with footage showing Heath filming on numerous cameras, with childhood friend Trevor DiCarlo saying: ‘He was always a director, acting was just a way for him to get there.’
Ang Lee, the director who also directed Ledger’s film Brokeback Mountain, added: ‘Even as a supporting actor he will steal the whole show, that is the power of Heath Ledger.’
Also to feature in the documentary include his sister Kate, childhood friends, actor Ben Mendelsohn and filmmaker Matt Amato. A series of clips showing Heath filming on different cameras are also shown, with his desire to one day become a filmmaker are discussed.
He is now best known for his exceptional acting in 2008 Batman film The Dark Knight, in which he took on the dark role of the Joker. The role won him a posthumous Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Bafta.
His other films well known for include 10 Things I Hate About You, A Knight’s Tale, Casanova and, his final film which was released in 2009, The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus. Ledger became a father in 2005, welcoming daughter Matilda with his then-girlfriend, his Brokeback Mountain co-star Michelle Williams.
"I Am Heath Ledger" will be shown at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23 and will be broadcast on American channel Spike TV on May 17.
