Flies land on your food to vomit
It is everyone's natural reaction when a fly lands on your food is probably to bat it away and just carry on eating.
But you may now want to reconsider. Because almost every fly that lands on your food vomits on it after landing.
Just consider how small they are, they’re loaded up with all kinds of bacteria and germs – more than 200 on average – that are potentially dangerous for your health.
And among the bacteria is faecal matter and other rotting food that they’ve landed on.
A pest control, said: ‘They only need to touch your food for a second for their legs or the tiny hairs all over their bodies to transfer germs from all those nasty things they eat onto what you are eating.
‘And since flies can transfer serious, contagious diseases like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid, it is probably best if you avoid eating things a fly lands on.’
They can also carry salmonella, anthrax and tuberculosis and they’ve been known to transmit the eggs of parasitic worms. Lovely.
If you want to avoid food waste, maybe just cut off the bit of food they landed on.
