The geode hair trend absolutely mesmerising

Introducing the trending geode hair, a style inspired by geodes which is currently taking over Instagram.

This style imitates an actual geode – aka a round rock which contains a hollow cavity lined with crystals. Styles have the depth and colour usually seen in the crystal applied in an ombre-like fashion, though some are parting the hair to use the colour in an area where it will only be on show if you let it.

Most are going for the typical Amethyst style colours, such as soft purple and blue tones, others are going a little brighter with the likes of pink and greens.

However, the style is only recently trending, 40-year-old hairstylist Monica Prusa, from Southern California, tells us that she has been using geodes as inspiration for hairstyles for years.

She said: ‘I’ve always found my inspiration in nature. There is a lot of attraction to crystals and stones here and the colours and colour combinations are never ending. Clients will often bring a stone or a special piece of jewellery and will ask to have it incorporated somehow.’

She also said that sometimes a client will bring a colour combination to the table that won’t necessarily look as pretty on the hair. Not wanting to disappoint, Monica will bring her own ideas into play beautifully with the client’s preferred colour, and more often than not this results in a geode-type style.

Though she admits that achieving the geode style can be easier on some than it is for others.

She told: ‘Each session is different. You might have someone who is really light naturally so you can achieve these brighter colours more easily or you might have someone with a lot going on that need more than one session to reach their end goal.

‘I will pre-lighten and then create a colour palette and go from there. I never use the same pattern twice.’
