Telltale’s Guardians Of The Galaxy game
They look pretty good, but there’s no mention of Telltale improving or replacing their aging game engine; so whether the actual game looks as impressive in motion remains to be seen.
The story will be brand new, but it’s not clear whether it’s supposed to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or not. Although judging by the costumes and the fact that they’re only calling him Rocket, not Rocket Racoon, suggests it is.
Unsurprisingly, there’s nobody from the film doing the voiceovers, although you do get Nolan ‘Nathan Drake’ North as Rocket.
The rest of the cast includes Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights, The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series) as Star-Lord, Emily O’Brien (The Young and the Restless, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor) as Gamora, Brandon Paul Eells (Watch Dogs) as Drax, and Adam Harrington (The Wolf Among Us, League of Legends) as Groot.
The official plot blurb is purposefully vague, but states that, ‘In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of them has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands.
‘From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, you wear the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, where your decisions and actions drive the story you experience.’
It’s rumoured that Deus Ex developers Eidos Montreal are also working on a Guardians of the Galaxy game, after Square Enix acquired the Marvel licence for action games. That hasn’t been confirmed though, and given how we’re not likely to see anything more than a teaser for the Avengers game until 2018 Telltale will have free reign until then.
