Spider-Man villain Venom is getting his own movie

While there’s still no word on who will play Spidey’s enemy, we do know Scott Rosenberg and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 screenwriter Jeff Pinkner will pen the script for the film being released in October 2018.

There have been rumours of a spin-off movie for Venom for a few years after Sony announced plans for a standalone movie in 2013 but after Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 bombed at the box office, Sony ditched the plans and instead focused on Spider-Man: Homecoming, starring Tom Holland, which focuses on Spidey’s high school years

Spider-Man: Homecoming is due to be released in July this year, with the Venom spin-off arriving in cinemas over a year later.

The sharp-toothed bad guy first appeared in the Spider-Man comics in 1998 and popped up on screen in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, played by Topher Grace.

Created by writer David Michelinie and artists Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck, Venom is a parasite that attaches to a human host, giving them incredible powers.
