Schoolgirl, died from inhaling the fumes of her deodorant

It was her mother who found her daughter Paige Daughtry face down inside a caravan in Fleetwood, near Blackpool, on July 18 last year.

Schoolgirl, died from inhaling the fumes of her deodorant

She had been spraying a large amount of deodorant on herself because she was worried about personal hygiene, her mum Ann Daughtry told an inquest into her death in Heywood.
Her mother said: ‘I shouted, there was no response, I went in and sought assistance. I was screaming at the top of my lungs, trying to pull her off her the bed and phone 999,’.
And Paige, who was a pupil at Royton and Crompton School in Oldham, was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital but died two hours after arriving.
Mrs Daughtry added: ‘She would spend hours in the bedroom and would spray and spray as she didn’t want to smell.
‘She used to spray it in small rooms and I used to tell her off.
‘But there was never a point we started to think there was an issue – not in the way we would have thought she was doing any sniffing or anything like that.
‘There were no indications what so ever, I would have noticed.’
Doctors said there was no evidence of ‘chronic use’ of the deodorant but did confirm Paige had inhaled butane and isobutene contained in the Right Guard tin.
Recording a conclusion of death by misadventure coroner Dr Jonathan Metcalfe said: ‘This is the unintentional consequences of a deliberate act.
‘Paige was inhaling the fumes from the deodorant but what she didn’t intent is the consequences.’
Paige was on holiday at the Cala Gran holiday park with her her parents Ann and Stuart and older sister Catherine.
A family statement said: ‘Paige was a bright and talented girl who still had her whole life ahead of her, she dreamed one day to do something with her singing or art. Paige is sadly missed by friends and family we are all still in shock and grieving for a loving, loyal friend, daughter, sister and granddaughter.’
