LEGO tape will turn anything into a LEGO surface
Because a pair of designers have developed a kind of LEGO tape which you can stick on any surface, instantly transforming it into a LEGO-compatible area.
Anine Kirsten and Max Basler are industrial designers based in Cape Town who have focused on making toys for the majority of their careers and their now product – Nimuno Loops – hopes increase the ‘creative potential’ of LEGO for ‘people young and old’.
They say that with LEGO, ‘the possibilities are endless and we’d like you to have the opportunity to create paradigm-shifting builds on more-or-less any smooth surface, anytime’.
It’s a project that has been crowdfunded on Indiegogo, with enthusiasts raising 50 times over the original target of $8,000 (£6,551). So far 12,600 backers have raised nearly $450,000 (£368,505).
As far as toys go, the rolls are pretty inexpensive costing $11 (£9), while 10 rolls cost $50 (£40).
Tape rolls are being produced in blue, orange and red so far – but who knows what the future and ever-growing donation pool might bring.
