Facial therapy: tested moisturisers that really work
From the weather and climate fluctuations to makeup products and pollution, our faces takes a battering.
And unfortunately, whether it’s dry or oily skin, we only ever get one in our lives – therefore, it is so important to take good care of what we have.
To help you, here are 15 tried and tested moisturisers that are guaranteed to be game changers.
1.Creme de la Mer Moisturising Cream, £115, Creme de la Mer
This is an all-time favourite on the skin care circuit and was initially designed by Dr. Max Huber to heal his burns from an experiment gone wrong.
While it’s expensive, only a small amount is needed for full coverage.
The moisturising cream is perfect for all skin types and leaves your face feeling fully cared for.
2. Orogold 24K Vitamin C Boost Facial Serum, £198, Orogold
I was given this a year ago and just thought it was a cheap product.
I finally started to use it recently and it nourished my dry skin like crazy.
Although, I still thought it was under £10 – a little shocking when I looked it up.
Definitely a product that earns it’s price.
3.Nivea Creme, £1.39, Boots
This is a classic budget cream that softens and smooths for all skin types and just because the price is low doesn’t mean it’s useless.
It’s said to be Kate Winslet’s go-to face cream.
Some have even tested it side-by-side with Creme De La Mer and found it to be better.
4.Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +, £18, Clinique
This is a brilliant lotion for young and old skin.
The lotion is very fluid, and almost a bit watery, which makes it easy to apply and hydrates your skin immediately for a fresh face.
5. La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream, £313, House of Fraser
This luxe cream is an amazing smelling product that is guaranteed to leave your face feeling silky smooth and soft.
6.Clarins Hydraquench Cream, £36, Clarins
This one is perfect for normal to dry skin.
It’s great for those who need some extra love for their flaky skin and it refreshes instantly, giving your face moisture without leaving a greasy feeling.
7.Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte’s Magic Cream, £70, Charlotte Tilbury
This woman’s magic foundations are amazing so it’s no surprise her cream is as well.
It’s a cream that works its ‘magic’ on irritating dry patches while smelling beautiful at the same time.
8. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Balm, £24.50, Kiehl’s
I have never found a brand that treats my cracked, bleeding knuckles as well as Kiehl’s so it’s a no-brainer that their moisturiser is just as fixing.
This is definitely one of the best brands for dry skin and it will clear up flaky skin very quickly, leaving it soft and smooth.
9. Sisley Supremya Baume, £475, Sisley
This one is a little pricey but it’s exceptional for dry and ageing skin and works its magic throughout the night.
A perfect repair and restore treatment.
10. Oskia Nutri-Active Day Cream, £60, Cult Beauty
This one is great for combination skin.
It’s a rich cream but it’s not heavy on the face. It also absorbs very quickly, so it’s easy to apply makeup on top.
11. Alpha H Liquid Gold 24hr Moisture Repair Cream, £51, Cult Beauty
This is an amazing serum but unfortunately it isn’t literally ‘liquid gold’.
This hydrates, brightens and illuminates beautifully and is great for both old and young skin.
12. Mario Badescu Hydrating Moisturiser with Biocare & Hyaluronic Acid, £19, Beauty Bay
This moisturiser will work wonders and is suitable for both day and night.
It’s very dewy and although it can initially leave the skin with a slight oily feel, it will have soaked in before you get round to your foundation.
13. Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 10% Moisturiser, £33, Cult Beauty
Is your skin oily, acne-prone or sensitive? This moisturiser will look after you.
After a week or less you will see a noticeable difference.
It has no smell so is also great for those who hate product fragrances.
14. Chanel Le Lift Firming Anti-Wrinkle Creme, £95, House of Fraser
This beauty is another great one for dry/combination skin and has a lovely rich and creamy feel.
As with all firming creams, the effects are only appreciated if it is applied regularly on a long-term basis but don’t be discouraged as the effects are well worth it.
15. Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus, £23.25, Beauty Bay
This wonder is a beautifully smelling moisturiser with a rich and non-greasy feel.
It’s perfect for all skin types and while it may not be as effective as some of the pricier products out there, it certainly smells the best.
