Why are people posting ❤️ on Facebook?

Facebook users might have noticed their friends posting heart emojis as their status in the last week.



The single  ❤️  in people’s statuses is usually posted with no explanation, leaving many wondering what it is all about.

While many assume the symbol is linked to Valentines Day or even be a personal thing, the emoji use actually has a very serious meaning.

What is all this about?

The heart is part of a Facebook campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer.

The person posting the emoji usually accompanies this with a private message to their female friends asking them to check their breasts. This usually reads:

This isn’t about raising money for charity – it’s about looking out for changes and seeking advice from the doctor if needed.
