Ubisoft hints at Watch Dogs 3
Snowboarding game Steep has sold better than they expected, as Ubisoft implies two major new game reveals this year.
As well as Activision’s financial results, which saw revelations about Call Of Duty and Destiny 2, it was also Ubisoft’s turn to talk to investors last night. And their results weren’t quite what you’d expect either.
Although it seemed to come and go with very little fanfare open world snowboarding game Steep sold above expectations. It even managed to sneak in at number 45 in the list of the top 50 selling games of the year in the UK, one of the very few new IPs to do so.
Watch Dogs 2 was way up at number eight, but although that seems impressive – and more than probably most people were expecting – Ubisoft described its sales as ‘soft’.

It’s all to do with expectations, and while relatively little seems to have been expected of Steep it hit its targets. Thanks to the poor reputation of the last game everyone assumed Watch Dogs 2 sales would be down, but at launch it sold less than a quarter of what the original managed.
But the game was actually quite good, certainly better than the first, and according to Ubisoft they’ve been ‘happy’ with post-launch sales. Word of mouth has been so good in fact, that Watch Dogs 2 has now outsold 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot talked about this being important for the ‘long term’ future of the franchise, which implies that Watch Dogs 3 is being considered.
