Topless women in protest over right to sunbathe semi-nude
Topless women flooded to the streets of Argentina in a protest after being confronted by police for having their breasts out on a beach.
The demonstrations in Buenos Aires, in Mar del Plata and Rosario, saw hundreds of fully-dressed protesters marching alongside those who were topless.
Action was prompted by an incident two weeks ago in Necochea.
Three women in bikini bottoms were reportedly ordered to put their tops on or leave the beach by 20 police officers.
Women painted phrases across their chests for the protests, which read: ‘Censura esta’ – ‘Censor this’.
Two men dressed in bikini tops help up signs which said: ‘Why can I do topless and not them?’
Other women marched with temporary tattoos reading: ‘May your body always be a beloved space of revelations.’
Many in Argentina, once one of the world’s wealthiest countries, were stunned at the incident a fortnight ago.
