Student, found dead after drinking cheap vodka and champagne

Erica Buschick reportedly consumed large quantities of champagne and cheap vodka during the evening out at Miami University in Ohio.

Friends claim that she had fallen over multiple times while partying.
The 18-year-old had only returned to the campus the day before her body was found after spending time at home in Gurnee, Illinois, for Christmas.
A report into her death said that she died as a result of ‘high-risk alcohol consumption’.

According to the Miami Student, Erica began drinking at around 10pm on January 19 with a friend.
The pair reportedly drank two bottles of champagne and then filled a water bottle with vodka before heading to a house party.
By 10.45pm, they had allegedly finished the bottle and began drinking more vodka – a cheap brand which had been poured into a Grey Goose bottle.
By the time the group arrived at the bar, Erica was reportedly refused entry because she was too drunk.
She was then taken back to her dorm by friends – and had to be carried in by the taxi driver.
The following morning she was found by friends, who called for an ambulance.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Miami University President Gregory Crawford released a statement after the teenager’s death confirming the college would take a ‘holistic assessment’ to curb binge-drinking.
The month after Erica’s death, more than 20 students at the college have been rushed to hospital with alcohol-related illnesses.
All happened over a four-day period.
Speaking to the Sun, Jayne Brownell, vice president of student affairs, said: ‘That is a very high number. That is out of the ordinary for us.’
