Starbucks is now trying out ice cream topped with coffee
Starbucks knows this (as they know all our coffee-related secrets, such as our deep need for coffee to taste like pumpkin), and so have added something truly glorious to their menu.
That ‘something truly glorious’ is affogato, an Italian treat made up of vanilla ice cream topped with coffee.
A select number of Starbucks locations in the U.S. have just started serving up affogato inspired drinks (they’re essentially ice cream floats, but with coffee instead of a fizzy drink), after a successful trial in their fancy Roastery in Seattle.
Here’s what’s on offer at selected locations around the U.S.
All the ice cream treats being sold at selected Starbucks in the U.S.:
- Classic Affogato – Two shots of espresso poured over vanilla ice cream
- House Affogato – Two shots of espresso with a touch of demerara syrup poured over vanilla ice cream and sprinkled with cinnamon
- Cold Brew Float – A cold brew coffee with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream
- Cold Brew Malt – A thick malted milkshake with cold brew coffee, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate bitters
The idea is to roll out the new drinks slowly, see how they do, then start serving them far and wide depending on how they’re received.
We reached out to Starbucks to find out when we can expect our Starbucks to start serving ice cream, and were simply told: ‘At the moment this is only available in selected stores in the U.S.’
So, erm, no official plans to start giving us ice cream any time soon. Damn it.
Still, you can recreate the magical affogato experience by just buying a Magnum, putting it in a bowl, and pouring espresso on top. Same thing.
