PS4 exclusive Nioh goes straight to number one in latest UK charts

This week’s sales charts are surprisingly interesting for this time of year, as PlayStation 4 exclusive Nioh debuts at number one in the individual format chart and GTA V breaks more records.

Originally to be published by Koei Tecmo, Sony picked up the UK rights to Nioh after the game’s betas proved unexpectedly popular. A decision that now seems fully justified. Nioh is already one of our favourite games of the year, as discussed in our review, and it’s great to see it proving successful.
Since it’s only on one format though, and still a fairly niche game, Nioh didn’t manage to hit number one in the all formats chart, and was instead beaten by Grand Theft Auto V. It’s the third time this year that Rockstar’s game has been number one in the all formats, after having sold more copies in 2016 than it did in 2015.

It’s the 12th time overall that Grand Theft Auto V has been number one in the UK, becoming one of only five other games to manage the feat. The others are Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (18 number ones), Wii Fit (16 number ones), Zumba Fitness (13 number ones), and FIFA 14 (12 number ones).
There were no other major new releases last week, but one of the more unlikely re-entries is No Man’s Sky at number 26. That’s due to high street discounts, which apparently weren’t enough to put people off the game’s poor reputation.
This week is busier than last in terms of new releases, with two big new multiformat launches due tomorrow: Ubisoft’s For Honor and Rebellion’s Sniper Elite 4.
