Passenger’s battery pack explodes on East London train
Several people were reported to have been inured after a passenger’s battery pack exploded on a London Overground train this morning.
There was ‘sheer terror and panic’ on the train at Dalston Kingsland station when the explosion happened with one witness saying people had jumped onto the tracks.
It is believed that the battery of a drill had overheated and started billowing smoke.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and TfL reopened the station nearly an hour after it was closed.
Greggs was giving free teas, coffees and sausage rolls to members of emergency services.
Services along the line were severely disrupted and Hackney Council described there as being several ‘walking wounded’.
TfL said on its website: ‘Severe delays between Richmond and Stratford and Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction due to an earlier customer incident at Dalston Kingsland.’
