Paris Metro was evacuated tonight after an ‘explosion’
Part of the Paris Metro was evacuated tonight after an ‘explosion’ and fire left passengers injured.
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after the incident, which caused disruption to trains and around the area near Place d’Italie.
Police said it was due to a technical fault.
‘This was not a (terrorist) attack,’ a spokesman said.
Initial reports had suggested more were injured, with claims of a ‘huge explosion’ circulating on social media.
A spokesman for metro operator RATP said: ‘There was a technical incident on line 6 and there was a release of smoke. Maintenance workers are on the spot. Traffic has been interrupted on part of the line.’
