Katy Perry’s Chained To The Rhythm is a smashing records

Since being released early Friday, the reggae disco track has notched up over 3,062,293 streams – breaking the record of the highest first-day streaming for a single track by a female artist.



Along with disco ball scavenger hunts, the track’s success is possibly down to Spotify ramping up their marketing for artists like Perry in general – including towering billboards offered by the company.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Spotify’s chief content officer Stefan Blom, said: ‘We’ve done a lot of thinking about how to position ourselves and be a better partner to the artist.

‘We didn’t have an artist marketing team before, and we have that now.’

Spotify’s records however are predominantly dominated by men – with Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You recently breaking the all-time record with 6,868,642 streams in one day.



Of course, Katy’s success is also probably down to it being a growing earworm. We’ve been living in a ‘bubble, bubble’ with the track all weekend.

It’s a figure which is only going to soar too, considering she’s performing the track at the Grammy’s on Sunday.
