Elephant annoyed when tourist tries to wash it and sends her flying
An American tourist was filmed flying through the air, after the elephant she tried to wash down with a sponge had other ideas.
Whitney Lavaux, who was at a shallow river in Thailand where people can pay to spend time with the creatures, sponged its trunk and splashed water at it as an onlooker filmed the encounter.
But it all went wrong for her when the animal decided it didn’t want to be washed, and thwacked her with its trunk instead.
The force of the impact sent her several metres up in the air towards the camera and she landed some distance away.
At the end of the clip, she gets back up so she doesn’t appear to have been hurt.
he posted the footage on YouTube at the end of January for friends and family, and was surprised when it went viral this week with thousands of views.
Many people thought the elephant’s reaction indicated it had been abused by humans in the past, or that it showed how wild animals should not be tourist attractions.
‘I’d rather not mention the name as the organisation works very hard on conservation efforts and I don’t want this single incident to define them,’ Whitney said.
After it happened, she posted a photo with a different elephant captioned: ‘At least this elephant liked me.’
