Craig David’s gig for War Child and Brits Week

The gig was part of Brits Week, together with O2, a series of gigs in the lead up to the Brit Awards themselves, and Craig David pulled it out the bag.

In the intimate venue of Electric Brixton, where we were so close to the Fill Me In singer we could see the sweat on his brow as he performed a triple whammy of singing, rapping and DJing, sometimes all at once, he had the crowd jumping like they were at a massive rave.

He cracked out his classics, kicking off with an epic rendition of Rewind:
Remixed versions of Fill Me In, 7 days and Walking Away also cropped up and making us regress back to the early Noughties.
He didn’t stick to his classic tracks though. His set list featured a list of covers that would be even a Craig David hater’s dream.
Flowers by Sweet Female Attitude featured for the garage lovers, as did an incredible version of TLC’s No Scrubs, and a surprising little feature of Destiny’s Child’s Say My Name.
And he totally schooled Bieber on how to do Love Yourself.
His newer hits The Baseline Drops and One More Time made appearances too for Craig’s newer audiences, sending the crowd wild.
It was unbelievable to watch as he flowed from DJing to some epic rapping to belting out his hits, almost without pausing for breath in what turned out to be quite a unique show.
Now that, Mr David, is how one does a comeback.

Enana's story

Just prior to Craig’s gig, Enana Al Assaf gave an impassioned speech on stage about her involvement with the charity.
Originally from Syria, she told of how she was once bombed during an exam at university. She heard a military plane fly overhead before the bomb hit and glass rained down on her.
During the terrifying experience she was given a choice to flee, but she stayed amongst the chaos and finished her exam.
‘I wasn’t going to stop just because it was dangerous,’ she said.
She’s now in the UK studying for her PHD and is working with War Child to help other Syrian students.
‘I just really want to emphasise that I hope there’s more support for refugees outside. I was lucky to get a scholarship to continue, but there are other students [still] there,’ she told the Guardian.
‘And if you give them education, they are going to contribute to rebuilding the country.’
