A reports from Nikkei Asian Review that Apple has ordered 70 million OLED screens from Samsung – an all-new screen technology with deeper blacks and brighter colours. The screen is also expected to be curved at the edges, like on Samsung’s flagship S8 handset, according to previous analyst reports.
‘Apple has ordered 70 million units of OLED panels from Samsung this year, while Samsung is preparing to churn out as many as 95 million for Apple in 2017, in case demand exceeds expectations,’ David Hsieh of HSI Markit.
The device could also be absolutely huge, according to an earlier report.

Rumours from sources speaking to Nikkei Asian Review suggests that this year will see a third, 5.8-inch iPhone model – with a higher price tag.
The top-end iPhone 7 Plus with 256Gb memory already costs £919 – so it isn’t too much of a stretch to imagine the devices breaking the thousand-pound barrier.
The gadget will have an OLED screen (a new development for Apple), but the device itself won’t be much bigger, as Apple aims to shrink the bezel around the screen, according to Nikkei Asian review.
Nikkei says, ‘By adding more large-screen options to the lineup to meet growing demand for big, Apple intends to raise the average iPhone price, which has already gone up by about 10% in the past three years to nearly $700.’
Nikkei’s sourcces said that as well as the bigger phone (known as iPhone 8), there will be two smaller models in the range, known as iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S plus.
