We all suffered from the heartbreak, the humiliation and the wine stains on your sweatpants.

Wise person who have developed a wine bottle that will not drip

One very important scientist, biophysicist and inventor Daniel Perlman, has come up with an astoundingly simple solution: just change one tiny part of the wine bottle, people. Essentially, the only thing wine bottles need to prevent drippage is a groove cut into the bottle’s lip.

Daniel have spent months studying slow motion videos of wine being poured, noting that drippage happened most often when a bottle was full or nearly full. He also noticed that streams of wine tend to curl backwards over the bottle’s lip, running down the side, because glass attracts water.
And he came out with a solution: creating a groove around the neck of the body just beneath the top, that wine can’t pass over. This groove is roughly 2 millimetres wide and 1 millimetre in depth, and prevents the wine from traveling down the neck of the bottle.

For a drop of wine to make it across the groove, it would have to travel up against the force of gravity. So it’s not possible. Instead, droplets of wine fall off the top of the bottle and into the glass with the rest of the wine.
Which all sounds very simple. So why the bloody hell haven’t we been using this groove-related magic for years? Why have we been putting up with endless jeans ruined by wine drippage?
Thankfully Daniel is now speaking with bottle manufacturers about the possibility of adopting his design and using it for all future wine bottles. We really, really hope they do. No longer shall we silently put up with the shame of spilled wine.
