The ‘sea sparkle’ Tasmanian beach glows bright blue
But those who visited Tasmania’s Preservation Bay at the weekend were treated to a different kind of scene.

And that’s all thanks to a large algal bloom, which transformed the water into a bright blue glow.
The bio-luminescent algae, commonly called sea sparkle, only occurs when the tiny organisms emit light – which they do as a defence mechanism.
But luckily for us, local Brett Chatwin caught the spectacle on camera.
Speaking on Facebook, he said: ‘It was one of the most unbelievable things to witness with your own eyes.
‘Storm clouds made an awesome back drop as well.’
The same natural phenomenon left tourists fleeing Bondi Beach in 2012… after it turned the water red.
The popular spot was closed, however a number of people still ventured into the water.
