Pokemon’s 20th animated film: Ash and Pikachu first met

Inspired by events in Nintendo’s original 1997 animation series – which also spawned the Pokemon craze – a newly-released trailer for I Choose You dips into the period when the pair first met.

Naturally, Pikachu isn’t playing (Poke) ball to start with in the short clip, being downright brattish as he refuses to walk by Ash and drags his little Pokemon heels with a rope tied around him.

But it looks like Pikachu eventually does come around as the pair brave the harsh elements and attacks from other Pokemon to work together as a team.

Rica Matsumoto and Ikue Otani are lending their voices again to Ash (Satoshi in the Japanese edition) and Pikachu, respectively.

The 20th Pokemon animated film will be released in Japanese cinemas on July – no word as yet if we’ll get an English version.
