Man’s driving licence with photo of himself aged 11

Charles Wade-Palmer, a 22-year-old from Birmingham, admits he used the childhood photo of himself when he applied for his provisional licence when he was 16.

It was fine for a couple of years, but after he turned 18 he realised that buying drinks wasn’t as cool when you show the pub landlord a pre-pubescent photo of yourself.
So when he renewed his licence he was glad for the opportunity to get a more up-to-date, grown-up photo.
Alas, no such luck – despite Charles sending a brand new passport photo to the DVLA, they just reused his old 11-year-old picture. So he’s now stuck with it until 2021.

Charles Wade-Palmer, 22, a reporter from Birmingham had hoped after replacing his lost driving licence online, his photo as an eleven-year-old would no longer confuse bartenders and doormen. He claims that after carefully selecting his current passport photo aged 18, when purchasing a driving licence replacement, his attempt failed and must use his baby face as ID until 2021. ‘It’s ridiculous,’ he said. ‘People have said I look as young as five, and they’re stunned when I show them what I’ve been using as ID for the last four, nearly five years.
‘Shop assistants will generally see the funny side of it, but it’s fair to say bouncers less so – they often demand a second form of ID, which I’ve even used my library card for.’
And time-pressed bar staff aren’t likely to serve him at all when his photo looks like a primary school child.
‘I probably wouldn’t serve him because it simply doesn’t look like him,’ Elouise Merryweather, a 19-year-old bar worker, said.
Newsagent owner Emir Celik, 33, added: ‘He’s still got a baby face in the photo. If you study it closely you might be able to recognise facial features, but no one has that much time behind a till.
