Man named Saddam Hussain cannot get a job
Sharing a name with one of the world’s most notorious dictators must be inconvenient at best.
But for marine engineer Saddam Hussain of India it is proving to be particularly annoying.
It’s been over a decade since Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi leader, was executed but Saddam of India believes he is preventing him from getting a job.
Even though their names are spelt slightly differently – the 25-year-old has an a instead of an e – he thinks it is enough to put employers off.
In fact he is so adamant that it is the reason he has been refused 40-odd times for jobs he is applying to change his name to Sajid.
‘People are scared to hire me,’ Saddam told the Hindustan Times.
‘I inquired with the HR departments of the companies and some of them told me my name was the problem.’
He is now waiting on a new passport, driving licence and other ID so he can prove is background to prospective employers.
