Man kicked pregnant woman in the stomach as self-defense
Michael Lee, 40, appeared in court on Friday in connection with the alleged assault on Natasha Rodney, 28, who is due to give birth at the end of the month.
They are said to have bumped into each other on a packed New York subway train.
According to Lee’s lawyers, he responded Ms Rodney got physical with him, according to the NY Daily News.
Lee, who works for Viaggio motorcycle company, didn’t say anything outside Manhattan Supreme Court but was seen in a tearful hug with his brother.
His lawyer said the woman and her baby were not harmed.
‘My client is in a position where he is fending off a violent attack from this woman and we don’t have a lot of the details here,’ he said.
‘Who responds to something that way on the subway train?’
However, assistant district attorney Joseph Abrams said: ‘This was a violent attack on a … pregnant woman on a crowded rush hour subway train.’
He denied that the woman had attacked Lee.
Lee was released on $7,500 bail.
