The US President’s initial 90 day ban – which applied to citizens from seven Muslim majority countries – caused chaos at the US border until the government was blocked from imposing it.
It is not clear as yet which countries the new order will apply to, or how it will be different, but the suggestion is it may only apply to six nations, with Iraq removed from the list.
As well as Iraq, the original order imposed travel restrictions on Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, and according to the Associated Press those countries could remain on the list.
Politico suggests the new executive order will be signed as early as Monday at the Department of Homeland Security.

It is only a month since the original travel ban caused chaos on across the United States after it was introduced without warning on January 27.
It temporarily banned citizens from countries who were listed for 90 day, but there was initial confusion as to whether green card holders or dual-nationality travellers would be stopped.
It is though some 90,000 valid visas were revoked until a federal judge in Washington blocked the government from carrying out the ban.
Although the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals upheld that decision, it could still be appealed to the Supreme Court.
