WhatsApp has revealed its latest feature
Yes, the app has introduced a new platform named Status – which basically means users can now scroll through content much like Instagram and Snapchat.
The new update – which started rolling out yesterday and will be on all phones by Friday – will mean instead of just sending and receiving messages, users can broadcast images, GIFS and videos to selected friends.
Mimicking Snapchat’s Stories feature, WhatsApp’s Status allows people to share media as a status update – and it will appear on a panel, much like Instagram.
Oh, and after 24 hours, the post will disappear.
People can also write text, place emojis and even draw over the media posts.
However, unlike other Apps, WhatsApp’s platform will be entirely end-to-end encrypted, so your posts are secured from falling into the wrong hands.
The update probably won’t be surprising for some people as Facebook, which owns WhatsApp, already rolled out a clone of the platform on Instagram last year.
But the step is quite a big one for WhatsApp as it will change the use of the app – which should automatically update by Friday, unless set to do otherwise.
