These fast food cakes
Self-taught 23-year-old baker, Laura Loukaides creates ridiculously realistic looking junk food cakes, and they will make you question everything you thought you knew about baked goods.
For me, baking is a mystery. I can’t cook and I certainly can’t bake, but I am forever in awe of those who can. It’s an artform, which for the most part is also delicious and how can that ever be a bad thing? Especially when they look like other foods you love.
Laura Loukaides is a self-taught baker who is taking the internet by storm with her bizarre and extravagant baked creations.
Something about these creations has us a little unnerved.
Perhaps it’s that realistic looking mayonnaise or that intricate detail on the ‘ham’… but we’ve been left in a confusing state of repulsion meets curiosity.
Laura herself admits that the confusion of flavours often puts her off actually eating the cake, but says she loves working with fondant and creating the designs
In the name of art before all else, we guess, and they certainly do well on Instagram.
Laura has amassed a following of over 15K on the photo sharing platform.
Sushi cake? Mmmm, no thanks.
A hearty fondant beef burger won’t be on our menu, but it’s very, very cool.
How is it even possible that this gammon roast and tattie trimmings is actually a victoria sponge?
Is that a jacket potato with baked beans? Nope! That, my friend, is a cake.
All of your confusing cake favourites in one place.
The amount of detail is next level!
This one is more familiar. It looks to be, in the words of pie lover, Twin Peak’s Agent Cooper, ‘Damn fine cherry pie!’.
Want to make your own version of Laura’s elaborate cakes? You can.
Laura shares DIY tutorials on her youtube channel here.
I think we’ll stick to the original versions of our favourite foods for now, but we are definitely in awe of Laura’s talent.
