Plane crashes into shopping centre in Melbourne
At least five people were thought to have been on the light aircraft when it collided with DFO shopping centre in Essendon, in Melbourne’s north-west.
The crash occurred shortly before 9am local time but there was no word on casualties.
Earlier reports had suggested an air ambulance was involved in the crash but this was later discounted by Ambulance Victoria.
A spokeswoman for Victoria Police told new.com.au emergency services are responding to the crash.
She said: ‘At this stage we do not have information regarding possible casualties and police are currently evacuating the area’
Metropolitan Fire Brigade has advised motorists to avoid the area due to the extensive smoke.
