New app lets you know where sex crimes area happens

Well this new app, though it may not guarantee safety, works to give you peace of mind.

Essentially, it will warn you that you’re entering an area where a sex crime has been committed.

The app, called ‘Mimamotchi’, uses GPS to track a user’s locations and then automatically sends information when users enter areas were sex crimes have been logged.

Its aim is to protect young women and children from sexual predators.

The app is currently available for free across Apple and Android but only covers the Fukuoka area in Japan.

Nevertheless, it has received positive reviews on the Google Play store. 

One person wrote: ‘It’s a wonderful app. All women in Fukuoka should download it.’

Another wrote: ‘I’ve been waiting for an app like this.’

Masako Tsuru, a police inspector who helped develop the app, said: ‘Many people tend to look on sex crimes as somebody else’s problem, but we want them to learn about records of crimes so they will be more aware of crime prevention.

Tsuru added that officers had also worked with high school and university students to seek ideas for the app.
