MTV European Music Awards will be held in London
The ceremony, which was held in Rotterdam last year, will be held at The SSE Arena, Wembley, on Sunday November 12.
It’s the first time that the capital has hosted the ceremony since 1996 – when Robbie Williams hosted proceedings at Alexandra Palace on a night that saw performances from George Michael, The Fugees, and Metallica.
Speaking at the launch of this year’s ceremony, London mayor Sadiq Khan thanked MTV parent company Viacom ‘for your confidence in the greatest city in the world’.
MTV also made the announcement on Twitter.
Performers and presenters for the show are yet to be announced, but last year’s ceremony saw Green Day accept the global icon award – using their performance to slam Donald Trump only days before he won the US Presidential election. So excited to announce that this year's #MTVEMAs are coming to LONDON! Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong told the crowd: ‘I’ve got to say one thing, it’s really nice to be in Europe right now. Most of all it’s nice to be out of America, just for a second, because of this horrendous election that’s going on right now.’
Here’s hoping that London will prove to be as fiery!
