Lamborghini recalls 5,900 sports cars, citing fire risk

About 5,900 Lamborghini sports cars, including the $4 million Veneno Roadster, have been recalled because of a fire risk, the company announced.

The limited-edition Veneno and the Aventador, which sells for about $400,000, are affected by the recall. The company said the cars' evaporative emissions control system could incorrectly treat fuel vapors, leading to a potential fire during "particular maneuvers" including "engine over-revving at idle."
A U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statement about the recall said: "In certain driving conditions while the vehicle has a full gas tank, gasoline may contact the exhaust system... [which] can increase the risk of a fire."
About 1,900 Lamborghini owners in the United States were notified of the recall Tuesday, the company said, adding it knows of seven cases of fires worldwide, with no injuries reported. The Italian supercar builder has 135 dealers around the world.
