British man dies in fight between couples after wet floor sign hits his head
The 36-year-old dad-of-two died in hospital on Saturday after being seriously injured in a fight between him and his partner and another British couple.
The fight is believed to have started when a British woman threw a wet floor sign at Mr Bhandal’s head.
The incident took place around midnight on Friday at an unnamed hotel in the resort of Puerto de Santiago in the south west of the island.
The British couple said to have been involved in the violent clash with Mr Bhandal and his partner have been arrested.
It is not known whether the four were friend but they are believed to have flown to Tenerife on the same day just hours before the incident and were staying at the same hotel.
Friends took to social media to pay tribute to Mr Bhandal, from Woolwich, south east London, today.
One person wrote: ‘Gutted to hear about Daryl Bhandal. My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP mate.’
Graphic designer Brad Mulock added: ‘Daryl Bhandal. Unbelievable. Totally and utterly unbelievable. RIP mate.’
Pal Richard Specter said: ‘RIP Daryl Bhandal. Absolute pleasure knowing you. Top bloke and a brilliant father. I know a lot of us are in shock and rightfully so.
‘And for everyone paying tributes, I’m sure it’ll be a huge comfort to his family to know he’ll be missed by so many people. Sleep tight big guy.’
Another Facebook post, written before the tragedy in the early hours of Saturday morning, revealed how Mr Bhandal had gone out with his young son and daughter on Boxing Day to hand out warm clothes to the homeless.
Quality Solutions Group, the firm he was a director of, said it would pay the bill for all the clothes.
The man detained over Daryl’s death is understood to have received hospital treatment for minor facial injuries.
His partner was held on suspicion of throwing a wet floor sign at Daryl during a verbal exchange before the violent altercation.
