At least four dead after avalanche at Tignes ski resort in French Alps

Emergency services are still looking for other survivors from a skiing party of nine that was swept away by the 400 metre-wide avalanche, which struck an off-piste slope.

Two people are understood to have been pulled out alive while three remain unaccounted for with an official telling the Telegraph that rescuers were not ‘optimistic’.
The incident occurred during a particularly busy time for French skiing destinations, with families flocking to the resorts during the school half-term holidays.
Around 10cm of fresh snow fell on the slopes of the resort near the Italian border last week and more is forecast this week.
The identities and nationalities of those killed have not been announced.
