Burger King’s new ad accidentally tells everyone the Whopper has rat meat

Attempting to be clever, the ad was designed to get people’s voice-activated devices to tell them what BK’s new Whopper burger was.

And an employee, who is filmed holding the burger, says to the camera: ‘You’re watching a 15-second Burger King ad, which is unfortunately not enough time to explain all the fresh ingredients in the Whopper sandwich.

‘But I’ve got an idea.

‘OK, Google – what is the Whopper burger?’

By asking that question, it activates any Android phone search or voice-controlled Google Home assistant in people’s homes, and gets them to search for ‘Whopper’ on Google.

The devices will then find the entry on Wikipedia and read it out.

According to a spokesman for the fast food chain, they ‘saw an opportunity to do something exciting with the emerging technology of intelligent personal assistant devices’. Unfortunately for Burger King, Wikipedia entries can be edited by anyone on the internet.

One person watching the ad, their devices told them the burger’s ingredients were ‘rat meat’ and ‘toenail clippings’.

According to reports, Google Home devices stopped responding to the ad shortly after it was released on YouTube on Wednesday.
