The iPhone SE 4 isn’t canceled, apparently

Image: The Verge Apple is reportedly once again working on a next-generation iPhone SE, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, despite his previous reports that it had canceled work on the phone. In a Twitter thread, Kuo says the company has “restarted” the project and that the iPhone SE 4 will feature an OLED display — a first for the company’s budget line — as well as a 5G modem designed by Apple instead of longtime supplier Qualcomm. He predicts that the phone will more or less be “a minor modification of the 6.1-inch iPhone 14” and that it’ll go into production at the beginning of 2024, presumably coinciding with a release later that year. It’s unclear if the phone will have some of the iPhone 14’s premium features like Emergency SOS via satellite, Face… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/P4bVLh2 via Grabey

PSVR 2: How to stay safe, sane, and strong-stomached in Sony’s new headset

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Sony’s PlayStation VR2 arrived this week, and while it’s one of the best virtual reality headsets we’ve ever used, there’s still a number of common VR pitfalls and PSVR 2-specific annoyances new buyers might run into. Whether this is your first VR headset or just your most recent purchase, here are a handful of tips that might keep you from getting sick, tripping on a cord, running out of battery, or — and we hear this is particularly common — thinking Sony shipped you a blurry VR headset when it’s probably just a trick of the light. In fact, let’s start with that one. Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The VergeThis is how to wear most VR headsets, for that matter. Nintendo confirms it won’t be part of E3 2023

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge Nintendo has confirmed to The Verge that it will not be attending E3 2023. “We approach our involvement in any event on a case-by-case basis and are always considering various ways to engage with our fans,” the company said in a statement. “Since this year’s E3 show didn’t fit into our plans, we have made the decision to not participate. However, we have been and continue to be a strong supporter of the ESA and E3.” Nintendo’s participation had been in doubt since IGN reported that it, Sony, and Microsoft would all be skipping E3, and now we know for certain that Nintendo won’t be at the show. Resident Evil 4 remake’s latest trailer is packed with iconic faces and places

Image: Capcom Capcom just released a new trailer for the Resident Evil 4 remake as part of Thursday’s PlayStation State of Play presentation, and to me, it’s looking more and more like it will be an excellent recreation of an all-time classic. The trailer is chock-full of iconic moments from the original game, making me think that it’s going to do justice to the classic horror title. Here are just a few that I saw: Leon and Ashley dodging catapulted debris on the castle walls; Leon taking on two El Gigante enemies at once; Leon coming face-to-face with Major Jack Krauser; and even a showdown in what appears to be that giant pool-filled hall in the castle. I can’t wait to play it myself. The game is set to release in just over a month on PS4, PS5,… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/h5IYcJu via Grabey

Netflix’s new NFL docuseries starring Patrick Mahomes debuts this summer

Photo by Cooper Neill / Getty Images Netflix is getting into football. On Wednesday, the streaming giant announced a new sports docuseries, Quarterback, that will focus on three NFL quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs (who just collected his second Super Bowl win and second Super Bowl MVP award); Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings; and Marcus Mariota of the Atlanta Falcons. The series is set to debut this summer. “For the first time ever, the NFL allowed quarterbacks to be mic’d up for every single game of a season,” Netflix wrote in a post about the series. “The upcoming show will feature behind-the-scenes access to some of the biggest moments of the season, as Mahomes set an NFL record for total offense on his way to winning the league and Super… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/ULJMol0 via Grabey

How Microsoft’s Nvidia deal works for gamers — with or without Activision

An artistic representation of GeForce Now cloud gaming. | Image: Nvidia Microsoft is trying to convince the entire world that it should be allowed to buy Activision Blizzard for $69 billion — and it just bartered for Nvidia’s support, signing a 10-year contract that gives Nvidia the right to stream Xbox PC games over its GeForce Now cloud gaming subscription service. What does that mean for gamers like you and me? Well, I just got off the phone with Nvidia GeForce Now VP Phil Eisler, who gave me both a big-picture answer and the shorter-term practical details to go with it. Big picture, Eisler thinks this deal could finally break the cloud gaming “chicken-and-egg” cycle — providing enough games to attract enough gamers to convince publishers to provide more games, too. That’s because this deal isn’t just… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/mG1Nv4J via Grabey

Biden won’t stop a potential ban on importing Apple Watches

The Apple Watch is facing two potential import bans over its EKG and pulse oximetry features. | Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge Medical device maker AliveCor announced today that President Biden has upheld an International Trade Commission ruling that could result in a potential import ban on the Apple Watch over its EKG feature. “We applaud President Biden for upholding the ITC’s ruling and holding Apple accountable for infringing the patents that underpin our industry-leading EKG technology,” AliveCor CEO Priya Abani said in a statement sent to The Verge. Back in December, the ITC issued a final determination that Apple had infringed on AliveCor’s wearable EKG tech. In the ruling, the ITC recommended a limited exclusion order and a cease-and-desist order for Apple Watch models with EKG features. If enforced, that would mean that Apple would no longer be able… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/KPGEQ8w via Grabey

TikTok wants longer videos for its new creator fund

Illustration by Nick Barclay / The Verge TikTok is testing a new way for creators on the platform to get paid — and posting longer videos is a requirement. The new fund announced today, called the Creativity Program, is in beta testing in the US, France, and Brazil and confirms earlier reporting by The Information about tactics TikTok is employing to boost lagging growth in the US. The new program is open on an invite-only basis for now but will expand to include all eligible users in the future, the company says. To be eligible for the program, users will need to be over 18, hit follower and video views benchmarks, and, most interestingly, make “high-quality, original videos that are longer than one minute.” The focus on longer videos might come as a surprise for some — after… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/5Jh1giI via Grabey

Whoop’s subscriptions are at its lowest yet… which is still pretty expensive. | Image: Victoria Song / The Verge Whoop is hoping everyone will give a whoop that it’s lowering subscription prices — an admittedly rare thing to see from companies in the current economy. The RGBDeck mod just isn’t ready yet. | Image: Adam Honse / Reddit As cool as the Steam Deck looks with RGB lighting, you might not want to attempt to mod your device just yet. One Reddit user who tried the mod found that while adding the RGB LEDs doesn’t draw a significant amount of power from the battery, it can cause pretty big issues with the Steam Deck’s motherboard. The “RGBDeck” mod started making the rounds on Reddit earlier this month, with u/WUBBSY documenting the process of affixing a small microcontroller and LED strips to the device. They topped it off with a transparent backing from JSAUX, allowing the lights to shine through the case while the Steam Deck’s switched on. Instead of planting trees, give forests back to people

Aerial view on the White Lake in Tansen, Nepal, at sunrise. | Image: Frank Bienewald / LightRocket via Getty Images It might sound counterintuitive, but empowering locals to manage forests is an excellent way to preserve them. That strategy can even bring dwindling forests roaring back, NASA Earth Observatory’s recent “image of the day” shows us. NASA published a set of maps yesterday showing the incredible recovery Nepal’s forests have made over the past several decades thanks to a plan to put nearby communities in charge of conservation. You can see thin forest cover in the early 1990s, followed by a lush resurgence by the late 2010s. Forest cover almost doubled across the country between 1992 and 2016, the satellite imagery shows. “Once communities started actively managing the forests, they grew back mainly as a result of natural regeneration,” J… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/W9dJHj6 via Grabey

Google struggled to grow over the holidays despite ‘great momentum’ on YouTube and Pixels

Illustration: The Verge Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai opened his company’s latest earnings announcement by boasting about “great momentum in Cloud, YouTube subscriptions, and our Pixel devices.” But read a little further, and the numbers show a company is struggling to grow: its revenue for the holiday quarter — the big one for many companies, especially those in the ad business — was essentially flat compared to 2021. It also had worse margins, meaning it was earning less on the money it did spend. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, had an incredible run during the pandemic, posting incredible revenues in 2021 and achieving record profits several quarters in a row. But throughout 2022, its momentum has cooled; its revenue has grown at a slower pace, and its… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/MP4fStJ via Grabey

It was the first such YOY for Apple since before the covid pandemic. Most of the curiosity around this quarter’s numbers was tied to iPhone sales; in early November, Apple warned of “longer wait times” for its flagship iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Both phones were hard to come by during the height of the holiday shopping season, though stock has since leveled out. But the supply issues, combined with consumers being extra mindful of spending amid an uncertain economic outlook, led to an 8 percent drop in iPhone revenue. “As we all continue to navigate… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/MgCp9Zy via Grabey
