TA’s goal is to install the chargers over the next five years, with the first ones showing up in 2023. The first installations are slated for locations in Texas and Ohio, according to TA’s senior director of communications, Tina Arundel. The soon-to-be-released HomePod 2 will also have this capability. In this article, we’ll go over how to use this new feature and show you how to use it with Apple Home smart home automations. This sick new desk from Steelcase costs almost $10,000 and might be worth it

The one problem with this desk is that it demands a Smith Corona, not a MacBook, which would make writing these articles difficult. | Image: Steelcase It’s not often that furniture makes a splash in The Verge’s newsroom (okay, it does happen occasionally), but when one of my colleagues dropped in Gizmodo’s article about Steelcase’s Frank Lloyd Wright Racine Collection, it immediately got everyone’s attention. “I volunteer as testing tribute!!!” said our smart home reviewer Jennifer Pattison Tuohy. “If anyone needs a kidney lmk,” sighed Alex Cranz, referring to the prices that we’ll talk about in just a moment. The brand is known for practical, ergonomic, and well-made office ware, but this crop of furniture has a striking midcentury modern aesthetic that feels straight out of Wright’s era. I mean, just look at it. These pictures aren’t from the greatest antique store haul ever or a… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/lMXIvZ4 via Grabey

Spotify is back after an outage

You can now get back to your music. | Image: Nick Barclay / The Verge Spotify says it has recovered from an outage that took place on Thursday. While there were issues, the company said on its community forums that “We’ve received some reports that our website www.spotify.com is presenting some technical difficulties so some of our services like the web player are being affected.” In a later update to that page, the company confirmed that “the Spotify app on different platforms is also affected.” I was having some problems with the service even though I’m not a subscriber. Spotify.com wouldn’t load for me on Chrome, and I was running into a “something went wrong” error message when I try and open the Mac app. As of this writing, however, both are working for me. Hi-Fi Rush, a new rhythm-action game from the developers of The Evil Within, is out today

Art from Hi-Fi Rush, the new game from Tango Gameworks. | Image: Microsoft Tango Gameworks, a Bethesda studio known for The Evil Within series and last year’s Ghostwire: Tokyo, announced a new rhythm-action brawler during Wednesday’s Xbox Developer Direct called Hi-Fi Rush. And best of all, it will be available on Wednesday. In the game, you’ll explore a colorful animated world and smash baddies and robots in your way. Because of the rhythm-action focus, you’ll do better as you string hits in time with the music. And things around the world also pulse in time with the music, which looks like it will really add to the game. (Watching the video during the Developer Direct, I found myself regularly bobbing my head in time with the music.) How to file and pay your 2022 taxes online

Samar Haddad / The Verge It’s a new year, and while we may have a variety of hopes for the coming year — a cessation or at least a lessening of disease and war might top some lists — one of the things that you can be sure you’ll have to deal with are your annual taxes. (The usual quote about death and taxes goes here.) While tax day traditionally has been set for April 15th, this year, we have until Tuesday, April 18th. (April 15th is a Saturday, while the following Monday is Emancipation Day, which is an official holiday in Washington, DC.) One thing to be aware of is that, while there were a number of changes that were in force during the pandemic, the IRS is slowly pulling back on them. They are listed on this page; in short, these changes include: no… Continue reading… from The Verge – All Posts https://ift.tt/dfAqoE0 via Grabey

Today I learned the Xbox can run Nintendo GameCube and Wii games

Photo by Tom Warren / The Verge When Microsoft first announced the Xbox would run Windows apps, I don’t think it was thinking of this! You can play Nintendo GameCube and Wii games with a beta version of the Dolphin Emulator built as a Universal Windows Platform app (via Windows Central). SirMangler’s fork of the excellent emulator runs on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and even the lesser of Microsoft’s two modern consoles reportedly does an excellent job. In the video above, Modern Vintage Gamer shows off impressively smooth performance on GameCube titles upscaled to 1440p, even when you add HD texture packs to games like Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem and load everything off a USB thumb drive. The next MacBook Air and iMac could come with a 3nm M3 chip

Photo by Becca Farsace / The Verge Apple’s working on a MacBook Air and iMac with an M3 chip built using the more efficient 3-nanometer fabrication process, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. While it’s not clear when the two upgraded devices might launch, Gurman expects the M3 chip to arrive later this year or early next year. Gurman first hinted at this in June of last year, noting that Apple’s working on an M3-equipped 13-inch MacBook Air, 15-inch MacBook Air, and a new iMac. At the time, he added that the M3 chip could appear as early as this year, but that hasn’t happened. Instead, Apple included the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips with the lineup of MacBook Pros it announced earlier this month, and also added an M2 Pro chip to the Mac Mini. Yesterday’s flagships are today’s bang-for-the-buck deals when you can get them for prices like this. | Photo by Becca Farsace / The Verge It’s Friday, which means it’s time for some Frideals (sorry, not sorry). First off, the last-gen Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro have fallen to their lowest price yet. Right now, you can get the wireless earbuds for just $99.99 ($100 off) in all colors at Best Buy or in white at Amazon. Now, these buds from early 2021 may not have the lightweight, refined design and fancy 24-bit audio potential that the newer Galaxy Buds Pro 2 have, but they’re still an excellent pair of noise-canceling earbuds two years later. And as good a replacement as the newer Buds Pro are, they launched at a higher price of $229.99, making this discount on the last-gen model all the more worthwhile for anyone that wants some good buds on a budget. The video, which Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted a link to saying that “Tesla drives itself,” shows a Tesla driving and parking itself, avoiding obstacles, and obeying red and green lights. 2023 will be the year of the display

Razer’s Blade 16 is only one of the gaming laptops with decked-out screens coming in 2023. | Photo by Owen Grove / The Verge The laptops of 2023 will get new chips and new graphics. Strava knows its messy price hike is confusing

Strava, an official price chart would be nice. | Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge No one likes price hikes, but Strava’s messy rollout has left many customers wondering what’s happening to their subscription. Here’s what’s actually happening: the company is raising prices for the first time in more than a decade, and the new price everyone pays depends on the region they live in, whether they are a monthly or annual subscriber, and whether they purchased their subscription prior to November 23rd, 2022. (Customers who subscribed after that date aren’t affected.) But Strava didn’t make this easy to understand. Mercedes-Benz may drop its ‘EQ’ brand for electric cars after just a few years

Image: Horacio Villalobos#Corbis/Corbis via Getty Images Well, that was quick. After just a few years on the market, Mercedes-Benz’s “EQ” brand for electric vehicles — which currently includes the EQS, EQE, and a host of others coming soon — may be on the way out. The news was first reported by Germany’s Handelsblatt daily newspaper and has since been confirmed by Reuters and other outlets. While it may seem abrupt, this doesn’t mean Mercedes is giving up on electric cars — very much the opposite. The outlets report that since Mercedes’ goal is to go fully electric by 2030 with no new internal combustion engines or platforms released after 2025, the different branding has become unnecessary. Congress says the Army can’t spend $400 million buying Microsoft HoloLens headsets

The military was apparently asking for around $400 million — instead, it’s getting around a tenth of that to go toward improving the system, as previous versions reportedly caused “mission-affecting physical impairments,” such as headaches and nausea during tests. It was those results that reportedly led to the budget for new headsets, called Integrated Visual Augmentation Systems or IVAS by the Army, not being included in the government’s $1.75 trillion spending bill. Apple’s MicroLED dream: what it means for the Apple Watch and beyond

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Apple is reportedly planning to build MicroLED displays into future Apple Watch models — either in 2024 or 2025, according to a January 10th report from Bloomberg. Samsung makes Mini LED even bigger with the Odyssey Neo G9

I feel threatened by the breadth of this monitor. | Image: Samsung Remember the Samsung Odyssey Ark? Of course you do — it was released last year, had a monstrous 55-inch display that towers over you in portrait mode, and used Mini LED tech. In his review, my colleague Cameron Faulkner said that using it “feels like being in VR,” and called its presence “magnetic.” In short, it’s a monitor dialed (literally) so far past 11 that its Multi View mode was barely able to keep up. So of course Samsung went and made something even bigger, with even higher-end specs, and is announcing it at CES. Enter the new Odyssey Neo G9 (ignore the fact that new and neo mean the same thing), a follow-up to Samsung’s $2,499 49-inch Mini LED display of the same name, released in 2021. Kaleidoscope is a generic heist story but a fascinating experiment

Giancarlo Esposito and Tati Gabrielle in Kaleidoscope. | Image: Netflix On the surface, Kaleidoscope is a straightforward, albeit generic, heist story. It hits all of the beats you’d expect: the revenge-filled backstory, the complex process of finding a team and forming a plan, and the satisfaction of watching that plan unfold. And since Kaleidoscope’s story spans around 25 years, you get plenty of all of those things over the course of its eight episodes. But that’s not what makes the show interesting. Kaleidoscope is also a fascinating experiment, an attempt to tell the kind of drama most viewers are familiar with — but designed so that you can watch episodes in any order. As a nonlinear story, it’s a success — but as a fun crime caper, Kaleidoscope leaves a lot to be desired.
