The children, who have been named as Laksh and Neeshu, were discovered at their home in New Delhi, by their mother who left for no more than six minutes while she went to buy washing powder from a nearby grocery store.
She claimed to have filled the washing machine with water and piled up clothes next to it before she left.
According to reports, when she discovered her children missing, Rakhi alerted her husband,  Ravinder, who came home to help her search for the children, discovering them lying head down in the water.
The children were taken to Jaipur Holden Hospital in Rohini where they were declared dead due to drowning.
